Stem Cell Research for baldness treatment
One thing that disturbs a man more than anything is baldness. Now, scientists have found an innovative technique to treat baldness i.e. producing hair follicle from stem cells which are possile targets for gene therapy.
Stem cells are basically immature cells that have the capability to become a tissue. Hair develops from follicles and new follicle cells are born from stem cells that are present in a tiny bulge on the side of the hair follicle.
Researchers are of the view that stem cell treatments may potentially be used to cure many diseases including baldness and lessen human sufferings. Quite a few these stem cell treatments are already being carried out, but most of them are still under experiment stage and are very expensive.
Hair follicles consist of stem cells and research scientists are hopeful that these stem cells may be useful in treating baldness thru hair multiplication in the near future. The method will be to isolate some stem cells from existing follicles, multiplying them and then embeding the new follicles into the scalp.
Scientists have been successful in developing follicle cells from the stem cell in animals but this is yet to be tested on humans and they are hopeful that these stem cell might be a method to treat baldness.
The fact that hair grows fast and gets constantly replenished, will make it a popular resource to produce the amount of stem cells required for treatments including baldness
