Can You Still Profit with Email Marketing?

Many so called gurus will try to persuade you that email marketing is a dead horse. However this is far from the truth. It can still be a very profitable but it does depend on your ability to build a business list.

 

As I have mentioned many times a good business list is not about size but about response. This means that you will need to be very careful about how you build your list. Here are some tried and true methods for building a responsive list.

 

  • Your website: an opt-in form on your website is still the best method of getting visitors to subscribe to your list. Here is the reason why. Your visitors are already at your website and have shown some interest in what you are offering, content products etc. if they like what they see they will be inclined to subscribe to your list.
  • Sig file: Your little signature file at the end of all your emails is important. It should be short but powerful and always promote your list. Something like Regards Cathy Q, publisher of the A-Y-B free marketing newsletter http://a-y-b.com can be used. This will lead directly to the squeeze page for the newsletter. It is wise to test a few sig files to see which ones are most responsive.
  • Blog: blogs are good for creating interest in your readers and linking to your squeeze page. Make sure that at least one of your blogs will always promote your list.
  • Article distribution: you can write interesting and informative articles, and in your bio (blurb about you) at the bottom of the article remember to mention that you are also a publisher of …..free newsletter and give the URL of your squeeze page.

 

Encourage visitors to join your list:

 

  • Squeeze page: try to get your visitors to land on a squeeze page for your newsletter etc. 
  • Offer a good reason for subscribing: A quality free newsletter is also one of the best offers you can give your visitors to join your list. If they enjoy the content on your website they will be happy to sign up for more of the same.
  • A reward for subscribing: Everyone likes a free gift and your subscribers are no exception. Reward your new subscribers when they take the time to join your list. Make sure your gift is:
    • Useful: it should be something your visitors can use to grow their business and make money ASAP.
    • Unique: Try to create your own gift. examples are; e-books, free reports, e-courses.
    • Targets your market: your gift should always be appropriate and relevant to your market.

 

 

Preventing the dreaded unsubscribe:

 

When you have worked hard to build your list it is very discouraging to see a large number of unsubscribed. When you see more than one or two per issue for your newsletter it is time to think what may have gone wrong.

 

When you are publishing a newsletter you can expect a couple of readers to unsubscribe. Not everyone is going to like your style or be interested in what you have to say. However if you are consistently finding more than one or two per issue you may be doing something wrong.

 

One of the things that really make subscribers mad is constant advertising, or too many in the newsletter itself. Just one or two in the issue is sufficient, maybe maximum four. This will not annoy the reader and they will enjoy your publication.

 

Publish articles that inform and intrigue your readers. You know your market and what they are most interested in, so give them what they want. Information and help for their businesses and lives.

 

With a quality newsletter and less ads you will retain your subscribers and they will overtime become your loyal lifetime customers. This is the way to build a responsive email list that keeps on giving because you are giving to them.

Autoresponders Your Tool for Success

In order to make your email campaigns profitable you will need a good autoresponder. This will make email marketing easy and save hours of time. The best way to do this is to have an autoresponder service. They will back up your lists and keep them in case you have any computer problems.

 

So what does an autoresponder do?

 

  • Sends out messages to your list:
    • Broadcast: one time only
    • Autoresponder: sequence of messages sent out in intervals. An example of this would be a mailer
  • Manages your list: an autoresponder will allow your visitors to subscribe through a website opt-in form and automatically subscribe them to your list. Unsubscribed addresses will be automatically taken off your list.
  • Spam check: lets you know whether your message will pass the spam filters:
  • Gives you an open rate: this is useful so that you know if your list is really reading your messages.
  • Allows split testing: this will allow you to use the best subject lines.
  • Allows unlimited autoresponders: this will let you set up as many mailer sequences as you need for different products and opportunities.

 

How can it help your business?

 

  • Mailer: one of the easiest ways to sell a product or opportunity is to send out a mailer. The visitor will click a link for more info and give their email address and name. Your autoresponder will send out a sequence of emails telling them more about the product or opportunity and encouraging them to buy or join. This is selling on autopilot. Once you have set up the mailer you can just leave it and let it do the selling for you.
  • Newsletter: A weekly or bimonthly newsletter is one of the best and most popular ways to build a good business list.
  • Ads: You can send ads from 3rd parties, or your own ads, to the entire list. When you target your ads to your chosen niche market you will make sales and profits.
  • You can do split tests of ads and messages to find out the best subject lines and open rates.

 

Autoresponders are a must for anyone who runs an online business. These are just a few ways to use them to help you to make money with your business. As you see I use Aweber and have found it to be the most reliable autoresponder service. Plus they also have great customer service, which I have used on more than one occasion.
